The history of TPA Impex

A seven-year-old kid was walking down the street one day. He saw a spring on the ground. The spring had fallen off a bicycle seat. The kid got curious. No, he didn’t kick it aside, as most kids his age would do. He picked it up, looked at it and wondered what kind of machine could make something like this. It was a spring also in the metaphorical sense. It spurred him on. And that seven-year-old kid, whose name was Luigi Amoretti, has often been ‘spurred on’ by ‘springs’ of this kind during his life – at least, judging from the many patents that bear his name! TPA IMPEX S.p.A. – located at Romano d'Ezzelino (in the northern Italian province of Vicenza), and now a world leader in the steam and vacuum domestic appliances field – owes its existence and successes to Amoretti and to his boundless inventiveness and natural talent for applied mechanics.
Where does his secret lie? Let’s hear what the proprietor of TPA IMPEX has to say: “Passion for work and determination are still my key strengths. This company has produced about 120 patents. We bring out patents at an impressive rate – seven or eight per year. My competitors can copy what they see but they can’t copy what goes on in my mind. Actually, competing with other companies provides me with a stimulus to seek out newer solutions all the time”.
Luigi Amoretti’s activities as an entrepreneur began in August 1987. With three partners, he took over a factory producing irons. A couple of years later, he gained control over the entire company. His workload was heavy, but with the help of his wife, Serenella, and his children, in just a few years Luigi Amoretti raised the turnover of TPA Impex and its allied firms to the 55 billion liras threshold, with exports to Australia, South Africa, Texas, Turkey and Japan, not to mention the company’s Europe-wide customer base. New production plant building work is underway. When the work’s done, the roofed areas belonging to the company shall total 17,000 sq. m.
TPA Impex’s future grows out of its solidity. Amoretti’s wife has been with the company for years. She’s directly responsible for the vacuum cleaners and floor polishers department. Amoretti’s elder son, Andrea, heads the design department and has already deposited a number of patents. His brother, Nicola, works on the commercial side of the company’s activities. Then comes young Giulia. According to her family Giulia, now ten years old, was an excellent drawer already at the age of three. So, what does she like drawing best? You guessed it – steam generators!
